Many incentive schemes are
being implemented viz. providing of Scholarships from class 1st to 8th,
Mid-day-Meal, vocationalization, purchase of land for Primary Middle, High, and Higher
Secondary Level, purchase of teaching learning material at all levels, free supply
of Text books from class Ist to 8th, construction of school building etc.
through following sectors:-

Elementary education: Elementary
Education mostly deal with the Primary & Middle School Education under District
Sector.

Secondary
Education: Secondary education deals with the High and Higher
Secondary Education under District sector and State Sector respectively .

Adult Education: The scheme
stands defunct and is operated in
Poonch District only.

Teacher Education: The
Directorate of School Education, Jammu has full fledged separate wing operation under
state Institute of Education (SIE) for imparting education to teachers.

Direction & Administration: This
scheme is meant to cape up Administration of School Education.
The
various schemes launched in the J&K are as under:-
Mid Day Meal This
scheme was launched on 15 August, 1995 to give a boost to UEE in terms of increasing
enrolment, retention and attendance in primary classes by supplementing nutritional
requirements of children attending primary schools. It is an ambitious scheme that has
been operationalised throughout the country in a very short period.
With main thrust on Mid day
Meal Scheme which is being implemented in whole of the Jammu Province, the modes operandi
of the scheme is discussed as under:-
Under Mid Day Meal Scheme Primary schools of five
Zones of each District were covered during 2004-05 and an amount of Rs. 91.01 lacs have
been incurred during the same year under the scheme. For the current financial year, the
Mid Day Meal scheme is implemented in whole of the Jammu Province under the main
guidelines:-
Abstract of the main
guidelines for the Implementation of Mid Day Meal Scheme
1 Objectives:-
(i) To
boost universalisation of Primary education (classes I-V) by improving
enrolment, attendance, retention and learning levels of children
especially those belonging to disadvantaged section.
(ii) To improve
nutritional status of students of Primary stage, and
(iii) To provide nutritional support to
students of Primary Stage of affected during summer
vacations also

Programme Intervention & Coverage:-
To achieve the above objectives, a cooked
Mid Day Meal with minimum 300 calories and 8-12 grams
of Protein content, will be provided to all children studying in classes I-V in:-
(i)
Govt. Local Body and Govt. Aided schools, and
(ii)
EGS & AIE centers.

Components:
-
Supply of
food grains, Wheat/rice at 100 grams per child per school.

Cooking cost at
Re 1.00 per child per school per day w.e.f.01-09-2004.
-
Actual cost in
transportation Rs.100 per quintal.
-
Construction of
Kitchen Shed in rural areas for which funds are made available under SGRY and in urban
areas for which funds are available under NSDP and UWEP component of SJSRY. Proposal to be
reflected in the annual action Plan.

Creation of drinking water facility for which funds are available under SSA and
ARWSP.
-
Purchase of utensils for which funds are available under
SSA from annual school grant of Rs. 2000 per annum per school.

Reporting on form-II, VI, VII & VIII of the main guidelines from Govt. of
India.
